School of Adult and Continuing Education
The adult education of Anhui Medical University commenced in August, 1957, when the establishment of Spare-time College of our university was approved by the state. A five-year program of medical specialty was accordingly set up, which was suspended in September, 1964. The enrollment of students was resumed twenty years later in the form of the evening university and was subordinated to the Office of Academic Affairs of the university. Department of Adult Education was founded in 1990. With the rapid expansion of the adult higher education in medical universities, School of Adult Education was formed based on the former evening university and Adult Education Department, recruiting students released from their regular work, partly released from their regular work, taught by correspondence, and taught in evening university. In October, 2005, School of Continuing Education was established and administratively joined with School of Adult Education. The School now consists of administrative office, admission office, continuing education office, science & education office, examination office and counselor’s office. With unremitting efforts of generations, over 20 thousand graduates have been educated, making contributions to improving the health care of Anhui province and winning the trust from society.
At present, the school offers seven majors for bachelor’s degree-- clinical medicine, nursing, stomatology, preventive medicine, medical laboratory sciences, pharmacy and applied psychology; seven majors for associate degree-- medical imaging technology, rehabilitation treatment technology and so on. Currently, there are more than 12 thousand students. Moreover, three teaching spots have been set up in Huaibei, Fuyang and Huangshan of Anhui. The guiding principle for adult education work has been consistently emphasized as “Active Development, Standardized Management, High Quality and Innovation”. The school is devoted to talents training to meet the social needs and exerting even greater efforts on building the university as a research university and promoting the quality of basic health services in Anhui Province.
